Local Events & Festivals           

Connemara is home to many events and festivals throughout the year. From music sessions and storytelling to displays of contemporary artworks, Connemara has it all. In June the ‘bog’ is celebrated in Letterfrack village with a week of music. In July Irish traditional music can be heard in Renvyle. In August the native Connemara Ponies go on display in Clifden and in September Clifden Arts Week has a parade, fireworks, storytelling and music sessions all through the week.

Takes place in Carna on July 16th 2007: St. MacDara’s Day. Mass is celebrated on MacDara’s Island and is followed by traditional boat races from the largest of the boats known as the Galway Hooker to smaller sailing boats Gleotiog and Pucan.

LEENANE

June 24th
Leenane Curragh Racing
Will take place on June 24th 2007. Contact: Michael O’ Toole; 095-42323. Traditional Curragh racing can be seen on Killary Harbour. Large numbers of people come to see teams of rowers compete on the fjord. The competitors travel from all along the West Coast to demonstrate their skill and prowess in the use of these ancient sea-fishing boats.
